Saturate a sponge or a soft fabric with white vinegar and rub it on the surface. Rinse the region with water and then pat dry. Vinegar is a powerful acid and may corrode mineral residue and acetate fibers, therefore dilute it once applied on any substance which can surround the stainless steel surface. As a precaution, then try a small quantity of the mixture in an inconspicuous area to check for discoloration. The vinegar odor disappears as it dries.

    After cleansing the clogs and debris from the stainless steel surface with baking soda or vinegar, then follow the treatment using a gloss made from olive oil or club soda to remove streaks. Dampen a clean sponge or soft, lint-free fabric using a little bit of olive oil or club soda, and rub it on the metallic surface till the stripes disappear. When using olive oil, even if the surface seems overly glossy, absorb some of this oil using a sterile, lint-free fabric or paper towel.

    Many industrial products made for cleaning metal include harsh chemical components which may damage health by releasing volatile organic chemicals to the atmosphere. Avoid products tagged as poisonous, corrosive, chemically reactive or sterile — an indicator of how dangerously poisonous they are. You might even ask Material Safety Data Sheets from manufacturers and retailers; those records list any ingredients in the goods which the national government has deemed poisonous.
